America Needs A Weak President

Christian Nationalists say that the United States needs an absolute leader to lead with strength that is unrestrained by the law. That’s why the Christian Nationalist majority on the US Supreme Court ruled yesterday that Donald Trump has absolute immunity from criminal prosecution even as an ex-President.

The idea of presidential immunity is found nowhere in the US Constitution, however.

The American constitutional tradition of democracy holds that in order to prevent autocracy, the President must be weak, constrained by checks and balances.

A strong President makes for a weak rule of law. A weak President makes for a strong rule of law.

Especially now, with the Presidency elevated by the radical nationalist Supreme Court to the status of a king, America needs a weak President.

Joe Biden is the best choice for President in 2024 not in spite of his weakness, but because of it.

The last thing America needs is a strongman.
