The Fascism of Faith Month

April 2023 was declared by Christian Nationalist members of Congress to be Faith Month. In the abstract, faith sounds like a harmless thing, but the faith advocated in the US House of Representatives through faith month was extreme Christian Nationalism against freedom, against democracy, against science, and against anything other than a harsh fundamentalist Christianity.

This episode analyzes speeches given by US Representatives Mary Miller, Diana Harshbarger, Andrew Clyde, and Rick Allen on the floor of the United States Congress. One by one, these Christian Nationalist politicians used the concept of faith to attack democracy and call for an end to religious freedom in the United States.

Faith, it turns out, is not some innocuous call for people to summon some vague sense of belief. Faith as expressed by Christian Nationalists is the demand that everybody accept the authority of Christian religious leaders without question. Faith is a call for absolute obedience and an end to independent thought.

These members of Congress used their religion as an excuse to deny the basic reality of Congress, argue against government by the people, and call for religious control over American education and family life.
